The newly refurbished and extended €31m Glucksman Library is Ireland's largest campus library and is one of the world's most technologically advanced libraries. 

The library, one of the busiest places on campus, will now provide 2,200 study spaces and a range of specialist zones to meet the changing needs of UL students and researchers.

THE PROJECT OVERVIEW

After a competitive tender and product review process, we  were delighted to be appointed as the main supplier for this prestigious project.  Our remit included furnishings for all training rooms, meeting rooms, breakout spaces, collaboration and study spaces along with some unusual areas including a fully functioning law court!  With so many different area types and sizes included in the mix, this project is a true example of us doing what we do best - offering "solutions for every space".

 

THE CHALLENGE

Covering a span of over 7,500 square meters the new library space is comprised of flexible training and learning zones, conference suites, restaurant facilities, law courts, private collection reading zones and innovative learning spaces.  As a state of the art facility, it required state of the art solutions to create a truly innovative hub for students and faculty staff.  Our brief was to provide products that would allow for multipupose zones for learning, meeting, collaborating and socialising.  Working in conjunction with RKD Architects, we had just 8 weeks to complete the project.

Students were also instrumental in choosing the furniture.  The University held a "chair fair" in which the most modern library chairs and desks from across the world were tested and selected by students for their comfort and the enclosed silence they offered.

 

THE SHEELIN SOLUTION

At Sheelin Group Commercial Interiors, we are highly experienced in complex sourcing and supplying, and this project is proof of that.  This multi-usage development involved the procurement of product lines of all types and styles from over 40 different international suppliers; all supplied and delivered during an 8 week period and as set out by the project schedule.  Students were also instrumental in choosing the furniture.  The University held a "chair fair" in which the most modern library chairs and desks from across the world were tested and selected by students for their comfort and the enclosed silence they offered.  Products were rigorously investigated and selected for their environmental credentials as well as their durability, which is crucial for such a flexible space.  As is part of the Sheelin ethos, recycling and waste removal were also an absolute priority for us in this project.

 

THE RESULT
