THE PROJECT OVERVIEW
After a competitive tender process, Sheelin Group Commercial Interiors was awarded the contract to fit out this exciting new facility. Our remit included reception and training areas, library and study spaces, mock theatres and café areas, main offices, tutorial rooms and laboratory spaces, as well as breakout and quiet zones. Such a highly specialised facility required really unique solutions and lateral thinking - projects of this kind are a huge passion point for our team.
THE CHALLENGE
With an area spanning 120,000 square feet over 10 floors, this highly ambitious project came with a significant number of challenges. One overarching consideration was that as a highly specialised facility, it requires a number of customised solutions. The city centre location also presented a number of delivery and installation challenges due to limited access times. Thetimeline was also extremely tight relative to the scale of the project.
THE RESULT
This landmark venture was completed on time and to the full satisfaction of the client and other project partners. The New Academic Educational Building (NAEB) for the RCSI builds on the college's heritage of an excellence and innovation, providing unique, modern and ambitious medical sciences and surgical training facilities. It is also proving to be a catalyst for the enhancement of the student amenities within the entire RCSI St. Stephen's Green campus. We are proud to have offered the solutions for this truly inspirational surgical space. THE SHEELIN SOLUTION
For this modern and sophisticated project, our independence was key to delivering the required uniqueness. As an independent supplier, we are not bound to any particular manufacturer, which means that we can approach every single project with complete objectivity.
To fulfil the brief, we tapped into our wide network of Irish and European suppliers. This allowed us to deliver a variety of the highest quality products, a large amount of which were customised for the college's wide variety of users and uses. In fact, over 80% of the products supplied were commissioned solely for this project, while over 3000 products were products were supplied in total.
Using multiple suppliers naturally complicates the coordination process, but we are highly experienced in such complex sourcing and supplying. Our knowledge allowed us to rise to the challenge through meticulous planning, successfully coordinating all manufacturers within a strict delivery schedules that had to be adhered to. We also successfully coordinated with the main contractor as well as the M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) and AV Consultants.
Despite all the customisation requirements of the project, we always took into account the environmenal considerations of the products being used in this energy efficient and environmentally responsible facility.
